Medicare Advantage is a comprehensive Medicare plan offered by private insurance companies that are contracted with Medicare. These plans replace Original Medicare Part A and Part B benefits. It bundles together Part A, Part B, Part D (in most cases), and additional health benefits (such as Dental, Hearing and Vision coverage) not offered by original Medicare into one plan.
Original Medicare only covers about 80% of your Medicare Part A and Part B covered health care expenses. That leaves you responsible to pay for the additional 20%, which can be financially distressing if you are diagnosed with a serious, long-term or costly illness. Medicare supplement plans with dental, hearing and vision can provide you with more comprehensive coverage.
Medicare Part-D is a stand-alone plan that covers prescription drugs and is a plan offered by private insurance companies. Part D plans partner with Medicare Parts A & B that provides prescription drug coverage to those who are eligible for Medicare Part A and/or enrolled in Medicare Part B.
